AED Legislation
The state of Oregon adopted legislation which will require the placement of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on the premise of:
- 'Places of public assembly', meaning a facility that has 50,000 square feet or more of floor space
- ALL places where the public congregates for purposes such as deliberation, shopping, entertainment, amusement or awaiting transportation
- ALL places where business activities are conducted
- ALL places where at least 25 individuals congregate on a normal business day
Why Did The State Of Oregon Adopt This Bill?
According to the American Heart Association (AHA), sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) strikes a thousand people every day. By having an AED onsite, you are better prepared if SCA strikes a coworker, guest or event attendee.

AED Financial Assistance Program
According to the American Heart Association, sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) kills more than 450,000 people every year. Recent studies have shown that without defibrillation, the likelihood of survival decreases at the rate of 10 percent for each minute that passes. Knowing what to do during one of these emergencies is a valuable, lifesaving skill. To that end, our goal is to strategically locate AED devices where their life saving potential will be greatest.
In an ongoing commitment to promote the safety and welfare of our citizens, Clackamas Emergency Services Foundation will offer financial assistance in the amount of up to $500 for Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices for any school, business or organization in Clackamas County.
The application process is simple:
- An AED request form must be submitted for approval
- Upon approval, the requesting agency will be sent a letter of commitment
- AED receipt and installation will be tracked
- Your facility will arrange AED training
- The local 9-1-1 center will be updated with new AED locations
Your commitment to this important initiative is appreciated. We are committed to helping keep our community safe and productive, and your facility’s participation in this program will enhance the well being of our community.
